Suspending
Last summer I launched my website. It has paid off in ways I could not have imagined back then. People from around the world have visited, allowing me to make connections I would not otherwise have had the chance to make. The website has also allowed me to reconnect with friends from long ago. I am grateful for both opportunities.
All that said, I cannot seem to find my stride with this learning journal. While I had hoped to give it focus, I am not convinced I have succeeded. My original goal was to “document learning moments”—to “examine my own storytelling, as it hinders and helps me along my path,” but I now see that as vague and meandering—without a clear sense of direction.
So I am going to take some time to find direction—I guess, in effect, I am “suspending my campaign” as I ponder just what it is I am trying to do here. I believe in the power of process, but I also wonder if I am spinning my wheels.
If any readers have thoughts or wishes about this journal, please let them be known. If I hear from you, I will listen, and I will respond on this page. If not, I will wait for some inner voice to guide me.
all best,
Jan

Oh, I don’t think of the learning journal as a chore at all. I enjoy it. But I want it to have focus and purpose. As I wrote, it feels a bit meandering to me—but maybe meandering is okay? I don’t know. Thank you for your thoughtful response and your heartfelt sign off. That means a lot. I am not giving up…just reassessing.

I have enjoyed the meandering and hope you will continue.

Jan, I like reading this too, and hope you will continue. Seeing that it’s not only about teaching/learning, perhaps you can rename the page and broaden your scope. It could simply be a writer’s journal.

All right. I will consider that meandering might be okay, and broadening the scope beyond “learning” might be okay, too. Thank you, Jane, Guri, Anita. I like having the outer voices to help me balance those inner ones. I will post soon.

Dear Jan,
If it feels like a chore or another responsibility of sorts, it may be not be as helpful as you hoped it would be. As one who visits often, it has been invaluable at times and has given me insight into things I probably would not have taken the time for. It’s kind of like getting inside someone’s head without having to make your presence known. If you were not the type of writer that writes a lot, I would say that this forum is important for you. You do write, a lot, so you may not need another outlet. Plus, sometimes we don’t really need to hear/read what others have to say. With that, I’ll say thanks for everything and I’m with you whatever you decide to do.
Your student forever,
Anita
